The device supports UMTS Band IV, also called AWS, which is also called 1700/2100.
A long way of saying NO on a 3G network
the device also supports 1900 on the 2G band which is a North American channel only

The WiFI side will allow you to connect your PCs but the Network connection side will not have anything to connect to.

Like unplugging the cable modem from a wireless Router. All the WiFi connections are made but no internet

Question

Do you need a router or any additional hardware to use this device?

We have multiple computers that we are hoping to use with this at the same time, and perhaps our Wii or DS. I am just wondering if this device is all I need or would I need to purchase something else as well?

answer 2
You must connect to the device through a browser and like your router at home you can log into it as an admin.

From there you can read and send SMS messages...but if you are connected with your PC why use SMS when you can use a Chat program or email? But it is possible via the browser

You can use is in charging, but need power-on. And you'd better not to charge it via USB for a long time while using it. It is worse for the battery.
